AMATEUR RADIO |
Entering the hobby of collecting and restoring WWII military communications equipment naturally drew me to the Amateur Radio hobby as well. Most of the existing collectors of WWII radio equipment had call signs. On April 29th, 2006 I passed my Technician exam and got my call letters KI6DUA. My next steps were to get radio equipment which allowed me to use the frequency ranges that my license level allowed. Since most of the WWII German equipment functioned on the AM and HF frequency ranges below 50 MHz, I can't use it just yet. I've purchased the YAESU VX-7R hand-held transceiver, and the Kenwood TM-D700a mobile transceiver. These are both VHF/UHF transceivers that are amazingly feature-rich and will allow me to start communicating. On January 5th, 2008, I passed my General test. |
