Wehrmacht Throat Microphone with Switch
 
These microphones were used in armored vehicles where the noise level required a device which needed direct contact with the throat of the speaker. Regular microphones could not be used in these environments, because a) the noise level precluded it, and b) the speaker needed both hands to perform tasks other than holding a microphone.
